Sunday Afternoon Soundtracks
III.
Here we go again. Sunday afternoon soundtracks is on the electronic instrumental tip today. Hudson Mohawke is set to release the album Butter in October and so far the tracks are sounding like some bangers to me. The song "Rising 5" has been in my DJ set rotation for about a month now. Here's a YT version so you can listen to the song and then click here to download. Enjoy

This Weekend & Such.
What is good party peoples. Here's some stuff to check this weekend.
Tonight DJ Espada plus a whole slew of fresh DJ's including Jimmy 2 Times & Plain Ole Bill & a ton more will be rocking over at the Bedlam Theater. This has been going strong for months now and it gets pretty crazy with the 18+ crowd rocking out. I will be trying to make it there but who knows since school official is kicking my arse aka life right now.
All day Saturday there's a Fifth Element parking lot sale at 2411 Hennepin Ave behind the building. I'll be DJing and so will Petey "RnB" Wheatstraw plus a bunch of other good people. If you DJ or collect records I'd recommend getting there early since the store will be putting the "fabled used vinyl" on sale. It's been stashed away for 5+ years in the Fifth Element basement and this is the first time it's been seen by the general public. There'll be food and whatnot so come by and kick it.
Saturday night on the late late tip Anthem Heart will be having a party over at their studio (1224 Quincy Street NE #225) with live DJs and screen printing popping off. It's from 11-4am which means it could turn into a nice little after bar.
Wants Vs Need's friend and affiliate posted this today and it had me literally laughing out loud.
Have good weekend all and enjoy this nice Fall weather that has arrived.

Amanda Blank / Philly
Amanda Blank / Simplefly Promo from Adam Garcia on Vimeo.
Working with my homey Jay Yo from Simplefly in Philly on this show for Red Bull Public Assembly. The whole thing is a contest, where Red Bull takes three different promoters from the city and basically sees which one can throw the best party. The winner of the three gets a bunch of money and a chance to throw an event in the New York Red Bull space. I had the opportunity to design all the promo for this event. Fingers crossed y'all.

Sunday Afternoon Soundtracks
First and foremost RIP Grandmaster Roc Raida. He was one of my DJ heroes and truly an inspiration for thousands. It's tragic when such talented people pass away at such a young age. If you're not familiar with his work and contributions to the DJ community click here
Today's Sunday afternoon soundtrack selection is the Dangermouse Remix of Zero 7's "Somersault" ft MF Doom.

DAM-FUNK in a Hall of Mammals
If you know me, you know I'm all about that FUNK. I had the honor of checkin' out Dam-Funk at Santos' Party House in NY a few weeks ago, and I've never had such an amazing time on the dance floor. Homey takes it to the roots, playing his own music, others' ish, and playing keys and emceeing the jam the whole time. A deejay's deejay.
Around 1:00 is when it gets poppin. See him when you can.

A proper send-off
So, the homey Eric Inkala is packing his shit and moving to NY. In celebration of this adventure, he is having an art show/goodbye party at First Amendment Gallery this Saturday night. Not only is Eric going to have new art on display, but so are almost 50 of his friends (peep the flyer for the full line up). I am sure this is going to be one of the best shows that we have had at the gallery, so make sure to write this one in on the calendar.

Sunday Afternoon Soundtracks
After a wild Friday & Saturday most people like to keep it low key and relax on a Sunday afternoon so I thought I'd start a new series here at WVN called "Sunday Afternoon Soundtracks" to add a dash of music to the day. It'll cover all types of genres of music from Jazz to Hip-Hip to Eighties to Electronica.
David Axelrod's "Holy Thursday" should start the series off on the right foot. Axelrod was a both a producer and arranger plus his impact on the music world is undeniable but you don't have to take my word for it. Check out this interview in Wax Poetics (click here)

Speechless.
Last night, I received a message that said "HOLY S**T! Are you at home?!" from one of my best friends back in Iowa.
My natural reaction to something like this at 1am on a Saturday is.....damn, something is going on back in my hometown that was tragic. So, i fall into a state of mind where Im going to hear bad news and this and that and turns out to be.....very, very great news.
Seems that Feadz from the Ed Bangers Records collective based out of Paris, France had played my "Treasure Fingers - Cross The Dancefloor" remix at this music festival in the Netherlands a couple of months ago.
If you could've seen the look on my face after being forwarded this footage....needless to say, it was priceless.
All in all, the best part about this whole thing is that it was documented and I have NO CLUE how he got it. So, props to one of the few blogs that even had that remix and put it up on their site.
Endless thank yous.
Check out the footage below (my tune comes in around 23 seconds of it)

Kamaal The Abstract
September is sizing up to be an excellent month for hip-hop releases with new albums coming out from Jay-Z and Blueprint 3 (this album has grown on me some) to Raekwon and the long awaited Only Built For Cuban Linx 2 (whoa) and numerous others including Brother Ali's amazing album Us. This post is about something else though....
After A Tribe Called Quest broke up in 1999 Q-Tip released a solo album called Amplified which at the time I must admit I was unhappy it sounded so mainstream, being quite the underground rap nerd then, but was won over by Dilla's fresh production. Q-Tip then prepared to release what he describes as the hip-hop version of Miles Davis's Bitches Brew, as in a hip-hop fusion album. Well a long story short the album was shelved by Arista Records 9 years ago because they didn't think it would sell, so it was never going to be released until now. Q-Tip's Kamaal The Abstract is being properly released on September 15th. Here's one of the singles "Damn You're Cool"

Best Summer Ever.
I jacked these from Mr. Gerricks blog(Typoscura.) Sadly, I couldn't make it to the show but judging from these pictures, it looked pretty official. I really like how Tucker decided to make a collage of pictures for the background for the bigger prints. Well done, Tucker. The last photo is one Tucker sent me while he was hanging and features yours truly.
Again and always, love,

Blueprint 3
I personally think it's not the greatest but that's just my opinion. Too many guest appearances & production that's lacking but who knows maybe it'll grow on me after a few listens. That being said, it is still better than a lot of albums coming out right now.
