First week done.

Here's one of my favorite funk breaks for everyone to enjoy. I thought this track was very fitting considering what's happening personally right now with my transfer of colleges and transitions in life blah blah blah, anyways yeah it hits. Bass driven drums on smash plus funky vocals and some crazy B-3 organ. Found my first copy of the vinyl circa 2002 at Scribble Jam and found another a few years back at Landfill.

This is just an awesome story that I ran across on my daily blog checks.
This one brought to you through me via

Wakey wakey eggs and bakey.

Okay so it's unfair to say anyone is sleeping on this yet but here at Wants Vs. Needs we like to keep our eyes & ears on the cusp of that new new. Some of you make be familiar with Kid Cudi whose single "Day N Nite" was just certified platinum by the RIAA just for digital sales(nice). Some maybe familiar with Wale who rocked the dope remix of Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." that was pretty huge. Yeah I know you're thinking to yourself why does any of this matter? Well, the clothing company 10 Deep helped break both artists and now 10 Deep is getting behind someone else. Donnis. If you haven't checked it yet then don't worry since it was just released last Friday. You can download it for free from 10 Deep's website. My prediction is this kid is gonna be big. He has orignal production on his mixtape from people like Just Blaze and Needlz... pretty fresh considering it's a free mixtape.

No sleeping here. You're in the know now so just wait about 6-7 months and check your local radio staions.

"Had All The Mad Color Tips.."

Classic material right here! I remember recording this video when it came on B.E.T's Rap City back in the mid 90s! All in all, this tune and video make me very thankful and appreciative to know I grew up when Hip-Hop was in its prime.

So, from me to you...

Artifacts - "Wrong Side of Da Tracks"

Tonight @ First Ave.

The Red Bull Big Tune beat battle goes down tonight. Producers who wanted to compete submitted their tracks to be judged by Vitamin D & Jake One & some other folks. The selections have been made and tonight the crowd will pick the overall winner for MPLS. Medium Zach of Big Quarters is one of the people that was chosen locally to compete so you know the Wants Vs. Needs crew will be out supporting.

Oh and this guy named Freeway will be performing. If you're not familiar with him he used to be signed to Jay-Z/Dam Dash's record label Roc-A-Fella records but is now releasing an album on Rhymesayers with Jake One called the Stimulus Package. He has one of the dopest cadences in the rap world.

It's also FREE.

jacked from JAWSTHEMESAM

A time for sc-sc-sc-ra-rararara-scratching.

When I first got into DJing around 1996 or so (yeah I'm old) it was all about scratching for me. After school I'd go to my friends houses to watch DMC videotapes and nerd out about what kind of scratch was this or that. This would generally be followed by scratch sessions where we'd cut and then go record shopping. This Thursday at Fifth Element we're starting "Cut Class" an open scratch session for everyone to come kick it at. It's free and should be a fun time if you're into DJing.

Holy Ghost!

The group Holy Ghost! is one of my favorite electro production duos. They released "Hold On" a few years ago followed it by a slew of fresh remixes for everyone from Cut Copy to Michael Jackson. I read in an interview with them that every remix is done strictly analog by recording themselves playing all the instruments then sampling the recordings which is part of what makes their sound so gritty. This process takes anywhere from 2 weeks to a month per track. Here's their newest cut "I will come back."
